Review: Lawrence Arabia – Chant Darling (UK)

Lawrence Arabia is the moniker of James Milne, a talented singer
songwriter from New Zealand. Lawrence Arabia writes infectious songs, there is no shame in the love of simple catchy pop here.

Lawrence Arabia got a taste for touring with The Brunettes, and in 2006 decided to branch out releasing his own debut album. Now he has set Chant Darling out to win over audiences and critics worldwide.

Lawrence Arabia pays tribute to his influences of The Beach Boys and The Beatles greatly through this album. Subjects touched on in this album, written between New Zealand, London, and Stockholm cover everything from the hipsters of Hackney to political apathy. His songs are filled with quirky lyrical content, but manages to not come off as being twee.

The stand out track is Apple Pie Bed- guaranteed to be stuck in your head all day after hearing it once.

Having supported fellow Kiwi’s The Flight of the Conchords recently at Wembley Arena, expect to hear some more people raving about Lawrence Arabia soon.
