Today I made a visit to Nood, its a new design store that has opened in Christchurch where the old Fabric Vision used to live on the High St/Cashel Corner.
I liked a few pieces in there, the furniture is beautiful, but I still kind of felt like I was in IKEA, with the suitably pseudo Swedish sounding product line names… which is a little well… odd, and unoriginal. The Nood website is http://www.nood.co.nz/ but it won’t tell you much as it seems to be just promo no real sense of what the shop is about. The store is the new retail chain of Katmandu founder Jan Cameron, she’s switched the great outdoors for more stylish and she’s launched the chain in Auckland, Petone, Nelson and Dunedin also.
One wonders how long till Ikea chooses to grace our shores… rumour has it that they’ve been scoping out a site in Albany north of Auckland. There was this article in the Herald in Feb (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/3/story.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=10490969) stating the Environment court getting involved in stopping IKEA moving in round Sylvia Park, but I think Albany, considering that its mostly new development with no existing things around it except farm land would create an opportunity for them to iron out those problems.
to see what we’re missing out on.
